The pieces started coming together the way they often do here, one contribution at a time. The local diocese committed 38,000 EGP. The family scraped together 10,000 EGP of their own, real sacrifice from a household living on 5,000 EGP a month. And still, the larger share sat uncovered.

The remaining need was 300,000 EGP, about $6,100.
